Abstract

As an important technology of biosensors, Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) has received more and more attention due to its high sensitivity, fast response, the intrinsic electric safety, the immunity of electromagnetic interference, resistant to corrosion. In this paper, a brief theoretical overview on the sensing principle of FBG biosensors is provided. And various technologies of FBG for improving the sensitivity of biosensors are summarized, such as normal FBG, tilted FBG, long period grating, etched FBG, and FBG biosensor combined with Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). In addition, recent advances in biological applications are described, the merits and demerits in detection process are analyzed and compared, and the future development is also prospected.
