Dynamic Games, Application of Big Data in Economics and Econometrics, Matching Theory and Applications

Chee Kian researches primarily in dynamic games and has published in the Journal of Mathematical Economics and Dynamic Games and its Applications. He has co-organized an international conference, namely the ISDG-China Chapter Conference on Dynamic Games and Game Theoretic Analysis in the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and has co-edited a book entitled "Frontiers in Games and Dynamic Games" published by Birkhauser(Springer).

Besides his game theory research, Chee Kian has published a number of widely cited works in applying data mining techniques to economics and econometrics. His application of wavelets in time series analysis and his application of Bayesian networks to credit scoring have been cited across disciplines such as time series, machine learning and finance. His work on text mining of sentiments in ``small’’ data like short messages was invited for presentation in the Duke-NUS(National University of Singapore) Medical School and has been cited in a US Patent Application US-10453079-B2. His research on special economic zones has also been cited by the Asian Development Bank, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the United Nations. On 10 March 2023, he was invited to deliver a talk titled "Big Data in Economics" for the Riverside Seminar Talk series. In his talk, he addressed new developments in applying Big Data to economic research, such as economic forecasting, econometric estimation, causal inference and market design as well as an update on ChatGPT.

Chee Kian Leong served as the Director of Teaching for the School of Economics from 2016 to 2021. During his tenure, the School of Economics achieved the Provincial First Class Award for the B.Sc. Programme in International Economics and Trade. He was nominated for the Lord Dearing Award in 2017 for his innovative use of the social media for teaching and learning. In 2022, his module Numerical Methods in Economics garnered the Provincial First Class Award.
