Elio E. Espejo joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) in February 2020 as an Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics. He has a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Leipzig and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, Germany, and a Master and a Bachelor in Mathematics from the National University of Colombia. He was a researcher fellow at the laboratory of biotechnology in Chile University, in the mathematics department of the Israel Institute of Technology, Technion in Haifa, Israel and the Osaka and Kyushu Universities in Japan. Elio was awarded in 2015 with the US$50.000 grant repatriation program in his country Colombia, where he spent two years working as a researcher at the National University of Colombia. Before arriving at UNNC he was working in the North University, in Barranquilla, Colombia.
His principal research interests involve the theory of partial differential equation and its applications to mathematical biology, for instance, cell motility, tumor growth, chemotaxis and fertilization processes.
