Abstract
Cascaded H-bridge rectifier paves the way of high-voltage applications without input transformer such as locomotive tractions. DC voltage balancing method is very important to this topology. In the current study, a novel voltage balancing method is proposed that eliminates the multiple PI regulators in traditional balancing algorithms. This voltage balancing method based on improved PD-SPWM is simple to realize, with good harmonic characteristics, and is effective for voltage balancing in the condition of unbalanced loads, especially in condition of one or more traction motors regenerative braking, and can be used in an arbitrary number of series of H-bridges, different voltage levels and powers. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experiments.
