Abstract
In all areas of design the grid format as a basis for design projects is absolutely necessary. Composing and designing spaces with a grid have become an essential tool for the practising designers. However, in the desktop or web and
electronic publishing tools, the grids or guidelines provided are mostly static in nature. Through the empirical studies we conducted while employing a classical modular system to multimedia and web screen design, we found that viewer judgements on over 50 candidates yielded an average of 74.5% preferring reformatted screens using dynamic symmetry grids over original screens. These
experiments showed prospects in adopting dynamic symmetry as a gridding system for web page design tools.
