N2 - Shorter rise times, faster switching frequencies, and higher DC link voltages are all features of high dV/dt power converters that promote power density and loss reduction [1]-[4]. A higher dV/dt increases the risk of partial discharge (PD) between the turn-To-Turn insulation, especially in the first turns of the machine winding, where a higher voltage can drop because of the reflections (the surge impedance of the machine is higher than that of the feeding cable which connects it to the converter) [5]. PD activity can cause electrical machines to go out of operation by prematurely failing the winding insulation, especially for Type I turn-To-Turn insulations (i.e., organic insulating materials), reducing reliability [6] , [7].
