Abstract

Between ourselves, we debated whether this book needed a concluding chapter, but ultimately decided that other cities across the world would benefit more from highlighting the lessons China’s 30 years of transformation had to teach us. We see this book as a continuation of our first attempt at the city cluster level (Cheshmehzangi & Tang, China’s Carbon Neutrality Plan Implementation and Sustainable Development Process Review. In China’s City Cluster Development in the Race to Carbon Neutrality (pp. 1–23). Singapore: Springer Nature Singapore, 2022). Nonetheless, lessons learnt here are especially relevant to developing-nation cities, where the challenges posed by urbanization persist.
